Hyundai Elantra vs Kia Forte

Drivers who want to drive a compact car around the Bloomfield, Newark, and Paramus area may be drawn to popular models like the 2020 Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte. While both would be great options, we think that one is going to be a better fit for you and your lifestyle.

Check out this new Elantra vs. Forte comparison from the team at Lynnes Hyundai to find out.

2020 Hyundai Elantra vs Kia Forte: Smart Safety Features

Both the 2020 Elantra and Forte make safety a priority as you can tell by the inclusion of several available smart safety features. For example, these sedans offer the following driver-assist features:

  • Forward Collision Mitigation
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Rear Cross Traffic Monitor

They both also have a Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system. This system monitors your driving habits and issues an alert if it detects behaviors that indicate drowsy or distracted driving.

One feature we love that's unique to the Hyundai Elantra is Safe Exit Assist (SEA).

If you're parallel parked and a vehicle is approaching from behind, this system will automatically lock the rear doors to prevent passengers from exiting. If the door's already open, this feature will issue an alert to notify that traffic is approaching.

Unfortunately, the Kia Forte doesn't offer a similar kind of feature to help you exit your vehicle more safely.

Engine Specs and Fuel Efficiency

If you're looking for drivability, you'll like the standard powertrain in both the Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte. They're both equipped with 2.0L I4 engines that generate 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque.

On the other hand, if you want even more power, you'll probably like that both also have an available 1.6L turbo I4 engine. This engine delivers 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque to both vehicles.

However, if fuel efficiency is your top priority, you may gravitate toward the Hyundai Elantra. This sedan features an Eco trim level that comes with a 1.4L turbo I4 engine. The Eco powertrain gets the Elantra an EPA-estimated 33 city/41 highway MPG.*

The Kia Forte, unfortunately, doesn't offer an efficiency-focused trim level. With this sedan, you'll get an EPA-estimated 27 city/37 highway MPG on the base trim, which just can't compare with the fuel-efficient Hyundai Elantra.

Dimensions Inside the Elantra and Forte

The Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte are both compact sedans, which means they're nimble and agile when traversing tight roadways or highly trafficked areas. While they may be modest in size on the outside, you can't tell when you step inside the cabin.

Both sedans get the most out of their available interior space, which can seat a total of five passengers between the front and rear rows.

Front-seat passengers in either the Elantra or Forte can stretch out with 42.2 inches of legroom, and there's 35.7 inches of legroom in the back.

We do see a divergence when we look at headroom, however. While both sedans give second-row passengers a little more than 37 inches of headroom, drivers in the Elantra may have a bit more space with 40.3 inches of headroom compared to the 38.8 inches of driver headroom in the Forte.

Convenience Features

Your compact sedan has your back thanks to the convenience features offered in both the Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte. Features like available wireless charging and heated front seats are just a couple of the convenience features you'll find on both the Hyundai Elantra and the Kia Forte.

Additionally, you'll find dual-zone temperature features on both models. This allows the driver and front passenger to independently set their temperature control so each can experience that "just right" feeling all drive long.

While you'll find this feature on both models, Kia Forte drivers will have to upgrade to a higher trim level to access it. The dual automatic temperature control with CleanAir Ionizer and Auto Defogging System is one feature you'll find standard on the Hyundai Elantra but not on the Kia Forte.

Managing your vehicle with full hands is a breeze, especially when comparing the Hyundai Elantra vs. Kia Forte. The available Proximity Key allows Hyundai drivers to open their trunk without ever needing to access their key fob. This is possible because your Proximity Key sends a signal to your Hyundai Elantra to let it know you're approaching the trunk.

This signal will allow you to access your Elantra even when your hands are full.

The closest feature the Kia Forte gets to the Proximity Key is the remote keyless entry with trunk opener. This key fob allows you to unlock your car or trunk without the use of a key, but if your hands are full, you'll still have to press a button before your trunk will open.

Remote Services

When enjoying a day out on the town, remembering if you locked your doors or where you parked your vehicle is a thing of the past with the available Blue Link® Connected Car System. With this, you'll be able to remotely start your sedan and set it to the perfect temperature before you arrive.

In addition to remotely locking or unlocking your vehicle, you can also use the remote car finder feature to quickly find your car. For those with teen drivers, you can even set a geofence, curfew, and speed alert. With this set, your young driver won't be able to drive outside of a pre-set barrier. This helps you to know where your Hyundai Elantra is, even when you're not with it.

A similar remote service is available with the Kia Forte with the UVO eServices. Just like with the Blue Link® feature offered with the Elantra, you'll be able to find your Forte fast and easy with the Parking Minder feature. However, you won't be able to remotely access your Forte or set teen barriers or curfews.
